Chevy TrucksChevy markets the following trucks:For 90 years the Chevy truck has been an American standard of dependability and longevity, as epitomized by Chevy's marketing phrase "Like a Rock." The Chevy truck has evolved along with the sensibilities of the country. During the 1970's when the American truck loving public wanted a "prettier" truck, Chevy changed the no non-sense style of their trucks to make them more appealing to the current market. These were considered the "Glamour years" for the Chevy truck, but below the glamorous exterior was still a strong and dependable vehicle. Chevy also introduced a half-ton mini truck in the 1970's called the Luv, the Luv was an Isuzu truck imported by Chevrolet and never really had much of an impact on the truck market. When fuel consumption concerns loomed during the energy crisis in the early 1980's Chevrolet was the first to introduce a compact pick-up truck. The Chevy S-10 was a compact pick-up geared toward truck enthusiasts that needed better fuel economy, but still needed the extra payload that only a truck could offer. This is a niche that it filled brilliantly until it was discontinued around 2004 and replaced with a new compact truck, the Colorado. Chevrolet's Colorado and the newly redesigned Silverado are still showing their evolutionary connection with modern America. The new lines of Chevy trucks are Flex Fuel compatible, which means that they can run on straight gas or on ethanol blended fuels. What is the importance of ethanol blended fuels? Ethanol is a type of alcohol derived from natural sources, such as corn. Ethanol fuels release fewer greenhouse gases and since they are derived from natural sources they also support local agriculture. In 2008 the evolution continues for "the longest lasting trucks on the road", the Silverado will become the first full size truck to be available as an electric hybrid. The new Silverado hybrid will be a two mode system. In the first mode the truck can run on electric, gas or any combination of the two and in the second mode the motor runs on four cylinders, with electric back-up to allow for less fuel consumption and still have plenty of available power. In time the new Hybrid Silverado will stand with it's predecessors as another historical first in Chevy's dependable and evolutionary line of trucks. |
