Profile of the Chevrolet Avalanche

Chevy Avalanche Truck

Summary

The Chevrolet Avalanche is the top-tier pickup truck in the Chevrolet line. It comes with four doors and six seats, so it has a sport utility vehicle look, and Chevy does categorize it as a "sport utility truck". The Avalanche has the full-sized frame of the General Motors long-wheelbase vehicles, such as the Suburban and the Cadillac Escalade EXT. The Avalanche was Motor Trend Truck of the Year in 2003.

History

The Avalanche was introduced in 2001 and was distinguished from the similar Suburban by a light gray plastic lining on the body of the truck. Subsequent models were dark, and did not have the plastic trim.

Specifications

Seating: The Avalanche seats 5 to 6 passengers.

Gas Mileage: The Chevy Avalanche gets 11 to 15 miles per gallon in the city, and 15 to 21 miles per gallon on the highway, depending on whether it's a 2-wheel drive, 4-wheel drive, or if it uses flex-fuel or gasoline.

Safety Rating: The 2006 Avalanche got a 3 out of 5 star rating for frontal impact collisions for the driver's side, and 4 out of 5 stars for frontal impact on the passenger's side. It received a rating of 3 stars for rollover. The 2007 model has not been tested yet.
