Profile of the Chevy S10

Chevy S10 Truck

Summary

The S-10 was Chevrolet's first pick up truck. In a 2005 Vehicle Dependability study by J D Power and associates, the Chevy S-10 was the highest ranked in the midsize pick up class.

The first S-10 model was a base Chevrolet S-10 that had vinyl seats and flooring. The subsequent S-10 LS model came with carpeting and custom cloth seats, very like a car that could be used as a truck. Basically six models are available: the S-10 base model, LS, S-10ZR2, Xtreme, Crew Cab 4 x 4 and the S-10 ZR5. The Vortec engines in all these models have good towing power. The two basic models, which are the rubber-floormat base model and the LS, are fairly comfortable. The 4x4 model S-10 handles slippery road conditions with ease. Chevrolet full size pickups typically have the third door on the passenger side, but it's on the driver's side in the S-10. The jump seat in the extended cab is too cramped to comfortably accommodate an adult.

History

1982 saw the introduction of the Chevy S-10 as a compact pickup by Chevrolet. In 1983, the extended cab version and 4-wheel drive were offered. In 1994 the S-10 was remodeled with a new third door being added in the extended cab model in 1996. In 1998, changes were made to the interior and exterior of the S-10. Then, in 2004, the S-10 was relaunched as a crew cab.
