Ford TrucksFord markets the following trucks:The F-series Ford Truck has retained popularity for over fifty years - and with good reason. It's known for being a solid, reliable work-horse that has evolved from a basic working truck into a sports performance utility vehicle that is as tough as any pick-up in the market. The 1948 Ford Bonus-Built truck was seen as modern-looking vehicle, with its integrated headlights and one-piece windshield, and was the first specifically designed truck, rather than simply a car-based pick-up. It was not significantly altered until the second generation of Ford trucks in 1953, where overhead valve V8 and automatic transmissions became available. The trucks then became known as the famous F-100, F-250 and so forth. The third generation of Ford trucks were redesigned significantly so that the hood sat flush with the fenders, giving it its unique look. There were six different models, with four-wheel drive options available. In 1961 the truck was completely redesigned with a broader tray, and new front suspension, the twin I-Beam with coil springs, a design which has lasted the distance. The most popular Ford truck was the F-150, which was the best-selling truck in the US for thirty years. The same basic design survived from its inception in 1975 until the next century, with major changes only in the most recent Ford truck where it has changed from being a work truck to a sports utility vehicle. The current F-150 has a number of engine options from diesel to flexible fuel, while still retaining its tough image; it can tow over a ton - more than any other pick-up in its class. Ford has recently been involved in developing hybrid vehicles such as the Escape, and there has been talk of the new F-150 using a hybrid system - that is, using the energy from the vehicle usually lost in deceleration to power the truck. If so, this would be a great step ahead for a new, greener Ford truck. Ford also manufactures the impressive Triton Engine. |
