Ford F-250

The Ford F-250 was initially the 3/4-ton version of the popular F-150 pickup. The current generation was introduced in 2008 and is available in three different cab configurations: two-door Regular with front seating only, two-door Super with two smaller rear doors, and rear seating and the four full-door Crew Cab also with rear seating. The truck is available in either two-wheel or four-wheel drive, and the cargo box comes standard with an 8-foot bed or can be ordered with a 6-foot-plus short bed on the Super and Crew Cab models.

History

What's known today as the F-250 was actually introduced in 1948 as the F2, a heavy-duty version of the F1, and wasn't renamed the F-250 until 1953 as the 3/4-ton version of the 1/2-ton F-150. In the 1999 model year, the F-250 was no longer a derivative of the F-150 but part of a separate line of trucks Ford billed as the Super Duty series. As consumers demanded more from their pickups, the separation of platforms became necessary to eliminate compromises in performance, since an F-150 with the towing and payload capacity of a Super Duty would leave the vehicle with too harsh a ride for most consumers and softening up the suspension of the Super Duty would curtail its hauling capacity.

Reviews At A Glance

Edmunds found the F-250 to be a tough, capable, comfortable work truck but felt the V8 was not as powerful as competitors but was still "a serious contender for the top heavy-duty pickup title."
