Ford F-350

As part of the Ford Super Duty line, the one-time platform mate of the F-150 now only shares its underpinnings with other Super Duty series trucks, the F-250 and F-450. The F-350 is considered a 1-ton pickup and comes in rear-wheel or four-wheel-drive and can be purchased as either a two-door Regular Cab model without rear seating; a Super Cab with two full front doors, two small rear doors and rear seating; or as a Crew Cab with four full-size doors and rear seating. The standard bed for the F-350 is 8 feet, but a shorter 6-foot 9-inch box is also available for the Super and Crew Cab versions. Trim levels from lowest to highest include the XL, XLT, Lariat, FX4 as well as three special-edition packages: the King Ranch, Harley Davidson and Cabela.

History

Ford's 1-ton pickup was a heavy-duty version of the 1/2-ton F1 and was introduced in 1948 as the F3. In 1999, the decision was made to separate the heavy-duty trucks from the 1/2-ton pickup line, now known as the F-150. So the F-350 along with the F-250 and 450 were designated as Super Duty trucks. They are now designed and engineered as a separate line of vehicles from the F-150, and they all share their own platform and design cues within the Super Duty series.

Reviews At A Glance

Despite a base V-8 that lacks in power compared to the competition, the Ford F-350 is built tough and rides and handles well, prompting Edmunds to write "the 2009 Ford F-350 Super Duty is in fine form to compete in the 1-ton-pickup class."
