Summary

The Ford Lightning was a limited-release Ford F-150 with a super-fast V8 engine. The Ford Lightning was intended to compete against similar high-performance sport pickups on the market, such as the Chevy 454 SS and the GMC Syclone.

History

The first version of the Ford Lightning was available between 1993 and 1995 with the 5.8L Windsor V8. The second version Lightning was released between 1999 and 2004 with the 5.4L supercharged Triton V8 with max horsepower of 380. A third generation Lightning is rumored to be planned for release in 2009.

Specifications

Seating: The Ford Lightning seats 3 passengers.

Gas Mileage: The 1994 version of the Lightning reportedly got 12 miles per gallon in the city and 16 miles per gallon on the highway.

Safety Rating: The Lightnings built on the F150 models manufactured between 1997-2003 received a "Poor" rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety crash tests.

Price: The Ford Lightning is no longer made.
