Profile of the GMC Sierra

GMC Sierra Truck

Summary

General Motors offers the GMC Sierra as the hardier version of its Chevy Silverado. The Sierra also includes different trim and option packages than its Chevy cousin.

History

General Motors has been making pickup trucks since 1930, but it wasn't until the 1970s that GMC named its models the Sierra. By 1988, all pickup trucks with the GMC brand on it went by the name. Until 1999, a C in the Sierra model name meant that the truck was rear-wheel, and a K indicated that it was four-wheel drive.

Specifications

Seating: The regular cab seats 3 passengers. The extended and the crew cabs can seat 6 passengers.

Gas Mileage: The gas mileage for the GMC Sierras depends on the exact configuration of the truck and engine. For instance, the 4WD with 4-speed automatic transmission and Vortec 4300 V6 earns the lowest mileage (15 miles per gallon in the city, 18 miles per gallon on the highway). Some of the best gas mileage is offered by the 2WD with 5-speed manual transmission and the Vortec 4800 V6 (16 miles per gallon in the city and 22 on the highway).

Safety Rating: The GMC Sierra received 4 stars for driver's side frontal impact and 3 stars for passenger's side frontal impact safety. For rollovers, it received 4 stars.

Price: The 2006 GMC Sierra has a MSRP starting at $16,715.

Warranty

GM vehicles registered in America are covered for 3 years or 36,000 miles, whichever comes first. The complete vehicle is covered, including tires, towing to your nearest Chevrolet dealership, and cosmetic corrosion resulting from defects. Also, rust-through corrosion will be covered for 6 years or 100,000 miles, whichever comes first.
